Christmas Around The World

Omaha, Nebraska | November 19 – 23, 2024

No passport required! Travel to Omaha, Nebraska for a festive trip filled with concerts, tours and meal experiences from across the globe.

Join FCNB Travel as we head to Omaha, Nebraska for a unique & festive cultural holiday experience! On the way, we’ll make a brief stop in the Home of Sliced Bread, Chillicothe, Missouri to tour the historic square, view the murals and have lunch. Then it’s onward to Omaha! After checking into the DoubleTree by Hilton Omaha Southwest, our first evening will feature Christmas in Germany at the German American Society Center. There will be traditional German holiday music performed by a men’s choir, dancers performing routines from various regions of the country, delicious food, and ends with a sing-a-long of the beautiful song “Silent Night”.

Our first full day, we’ll experience Christmas in Omaha with a step-on guided tour highlighting the Gold Coast District, Lewis & Clark Landing, St. Cecilia’s Spanish Cathedral, and more. We’ll also visit Pioneer Courage Park, featuring more than 100 larger-than-life sized bronze sculptures. After our tour, you’ll enjoy time to shop and dine in the historic Old Market District. Later that day, we’ll tour the Czech Museum with exhibits honoring early Nebraska Czech and Slovak immigrants. After the tour, enjoy home-made kolaches with coffee. That evening, join our family and pull up a chair to Big Mama’s Christmas Dinner for a good old fashioned southern meal at this television culinary staple.

The next day, we’ll visit Father Flanagan’s Boys Town, decorated for the holidays according to Irish Christmas holiday traditions. We’ll tour the Father Flanagan House, the hall of history, and enjoy a guided driving tour of this amazing non-profit organization. After lunch, we’ll be transported to Christmas In Scotland with a visit to the historic 30-room stone mansion that is Joslyn Castle. Entering through the huge front doors, we’ll hear the fascinating story of George & Sarah Joslyn while surrounded by the elaborate craftsmanship of the wood interior that comes from around the globe. That afternoon, enjoy a visit to the Tea Smith with a presentation by a professional tea master of sampling of a variety of holiday teas. For the evening, we’ll be transported to Christmas in Greece at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church. We’ll tour the beautiful Byzantine Style building before partaking in a delicious, authentic Greek meal set to a holiday program complete with Greek Christmas Carols.

The following day starts with Christmas In Lithuania through the eyes of the owners of Omaha’s Lithuanian Bakery, the Mackevicius family. They’ll share with you how they escaped Germany in WWII and started their bakery. Then, it’s on to Christmas at Union Station where “beautiful architecture blends with memories of a time gone by”. Starring a massive Christmas tree in the stunning main hall, you’ll also see a collection of beautiful trees featuring the heritage and traditions as you explore the 1930’s train depot and The Durham Museum. Then, we’ll head to Christmas In Poland at a Polish home for an authentic lunch and dance presentation prepared by the Polish Heritage Society of Nebraska. Our next celebration is Christmas In Ukraine with a presentation by Olesia Reprichowskyj. She will share her experiences as a child slave laborer for the German Army during WWII, as well as the history, customs and traditions of her country. That evening we’ll head to Christmas on the Frontier with dinner at the General Crook House complete with actors playing the part of the General and his wife Mary in the year 1879. After dinner, we’ll end our Christmas Around The World trip with a traditional performance of “A Christmas Carol” at the Omaha Community Playhouse.

The next day, we’ll head home and stop in St. Joseph, Missouri to tour the Wyeth Tootle Mansion. Built in 1970, this 43 room mansion was designed to emulate the castles along the Rhine River in Germany. This festive trip will have you Celebrating the Season with Oh My! Omaha!
